'Abduction' of SSCH intern sparks off protests
Interns of Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital (SSMCH) blocked a road in front of the hospital in the city on Saturday, protesting the ‘abduction’ of intern Shamim Tapu by unidentified miscreants.
Intern of the hospital Murtaza said a group of unknown people picked up Tapu in a microbus from in front of the hospital at around 2:00 pm on Friday.
Murtaza said the interns took to the streets in front of their hospital at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar and put barricade at around 1:00 pm demanding Tapu’s rescue.
The blockade disrupted vehicular movement on Mirpur Road in the city for half an hour.
Besides, outdoor health services were hampered seriously due to their work abstention.
However, the agitating doctors withdrew their road blockade programme at around 1:30 pm following the assurance of the hospital authorities, Prof Dr Uttam Kumar Barua of the hospital said.
At a brief rally in front of the hospital, intern Mousumi announced that they will go on an indefinite work abstention from Sunday morning until the victim is rescued, according to UNB report. – DH
