A court in Dhaka on Sunday placed five leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami on a 10-day remand each in two separate cases filed with Rampura Police Station. They were arrested from a house in the city’s Banasree area on Saturday.
Dhaka Metropolitan Session Judge Yusuf Hossain passed the order when Mostafizur Rahman, officer-in-charge (operation) of Rampura Police Station, produced them before the court with a 20-day remand prayer for each.
Those remanded are Gias Uddin, 55, Aminur Rahman, 57, Osman Gani, 41, Lutfur Rahman and Shahadatur Rahman Sohel, 43. Meanwhile, SM Kamaluddin, defense lawyer, filed a petition before the court seeking cancellation of their remand.
Earlier, police in a drive arrested the five leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami with Tk 1.47 crore from a house in city’s Banasree residential area on Saturday. Later, Sub-inspector of Rampura Police Station Mostafizur Rahman filed two separate cases—one under the Anti-Terrorism Act and another under the Money Laundering Act- against them, according to UNB. -Mithun
