Foreign Minister Abul Hasan Mahmood Ali on Sunday said Bangladesh’s bilateral cooperation with the Maldives would be expanded further with the full-fledged resumption of Maldivian High Commission in Dhaka.
He made the remarks when newly appointed High Commissioner of the Maldives Dr Mohammed Asim met him at the Foreign Ministry in Dhaka.
Mahmood Ali said Bangladesh wants to work with the Maldives in exploring marine resources as the Maldives has experiences in deep-sea fishing. The government of the Maldives had shut down its High Commission in Dhaka on April 1, 2014 due to ‘40 percent budget cut’ of its Foreign Ministry but resumed its activities after a few months on a small-scale.
During the meeting, the High Commissioner expressed willingness to hire more doctors from Bangladesh in the coming days and sought Bangladesh’s support in taking up training programmes in various areas, including higher education one, according to UNB. -Mithun
