BNP wants to hold its rally in front of its Nayapaltan party office if it does not get permission to hold it at Suhrawardy Udyan on January 5, said BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Sunday at a press briefing at BNP’s Nayappaltan central office.
“We have no problem to hold our rally in front of our party office instead of Suhrawardy Udyan on January 5. If the authorities concerned do not allow us to hold our rally at the venue, then we’ll seek permission to hold it in front of our party office,” he said.
However, BNP already sent a letter to Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) today seeking permission to hold its rally in front of its office, he said. Earlier, both Awami League and BNP sought permission from the DMP in black and white to hold their rallies in the capital.
Awami League is escalating tension by calling its programme on the same day, he said adding, “they want to foil our programme and creating chaos when we sought permission for exercising our democratic right in a peaceful way.” Replying to a question, the BNP leader said, “We will wait for permission until January 5 and we are taking necessary preparations to make it a success.”
Earlier, DMP Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia on Sunday said they will not allow any political party to hold any conflicting programme on January 5, according to UNB. -Mithun
