MAGURA, Jan 3: Dense fog, labour crisis and low quality seeds are hampering Boro cultivation in Magura.

Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), Magura informed, they have taken a scheme to bring 34560 hectares of land under Boro cultivation in the district this season with an output target of 132500 tonnes of rice.

Magura farmers are now busy in preparing Boro seedbeds. But dense fog, low quality seeds and labour crisis have raised concern among the farmers in Magura.

Abu Reza, a Boro farmer of village Jagdal under Magura Sadar upazila said, “I had a plan to bring two bighas of land under Boro cultivation. For this I prepared my seedbed. But due to dense fog my seedbeds got hampered. Now I am thinking to prepare the seedbed anew.”

Taleb Hossein, another farmer of village Vina under Magura Sadar upazila said, “I prepared my seedbed two weeks ago. But as my seedlings were of low quality it has already been yellowish. I am in doubt about future of my seedbed. This season low quality seedlings have flooded the market.” – KRS
