Over 1,750 chatal mills closed due to foggy weather in Bogra

BOGRA Jan 3: Over 1,750 Chatal mills across the district remain closed due to heavy foggy weather and a huge number of owners are incurring untold losses in all twelve upazilas of Bogra from the last month.

Around Tk 560 million worth of boiled paddy is lying stockpiled at the chatal mills premises due to foggy weather as the workers are passing a hard time.

District chatal mill owners samity source said, a total of 1750 chatal mills have been established across the district aiming 33600 million tonnes of rice production at different places of the area and a total 15000 labourers are seen working boiling paddy to meet the demand of family expenditure round the year.

But due to heavy foggy weather condition, the chatal mill owners and traders here are incurring huge loss a everyday of the district, source added.

While visiting different chatal mill yard in Dupchanchia, Kahaloo, Adamdighi, Shibgonj, Serpur, Dhunot and sadar upazilas of the district this correspondent found that a good number of mill owners kept huge quantity of boiled paddy covered with polythene  sheets on mill premises. - KRS
