Police permitted Awami League and BNP to hold separate rallies at different venues in Chittagong on the second anniversary of the 10th national election on January 5.
Both parties sought permission to hold rallies at the Laldighi Maidan on Tuesday, said Chittagong Metropolitan Police’s Additional Commissioner (Administration) Shahidur Rahman.
But the Awami League is permitted to hold its rally at the Central Shaheed Minar and the BNP in front of its party office Nasiman Bhaban at Kazir Deurhi, he said on Monday.
Last year, the BNP-led 20-Party alliance was denied permission to hold rallies in Dhaka but was allowed to do so in front of the BNP office in the port city. At the end of the meet, sections of the BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami were embroiled in a clash with police at Kazir Deurhi, according to bdnews24.com. -Mithun
