A court in Chittagong placed the three students of Chittagong University suspected of members of banned militant group Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) on a four-day remand in another case on Monday.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Mahmudul Hasan passed the order after police produced them before his court seeking a 10-day remand in the arms case filed with Hathazari Police Station. Those remanded are Naimur Rahman Nayan, Faisal Mahmud and Shawkat Russell.
On December 26, detectives arrested the three suspected JMB members and recovered huge arms, bomb-making substances and 12 sets of army uniforms from Aman Bazar area of the city. Later, they were put on a five-day remand in a case filed with Karnaphuli Police Station on October 6 last.
On December 29, Chittagong University authorities expelled the three students for their alleged link to the banned militant outfit. Of them, Naimur Rahman Nayan was a fourth-year student of Physics department, and Faisal Mahmud and Shawkat Russell were master’s degree students of the department, according to UNB. -Mithun
