Tightened security for Biswa Ijtema: minister

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Kamal on Tuesday said law enforcement agencies will be on tight vigil to ensure security at the Biswa Ijtema in Tongi, scheduled to take place from January 8.

The two phases 51th Biswa Ijtema will be held from January 8 to 10 and January 11 to 14.

Gazipur's police superintendent Harunur Rashid, meanwhile, said around 5,000 policemen will be deployed in and around the Ijtema ground during the event while policemen in disguise of devotees will take position at 16 zones inside the field.

Twenty magistrates will perform their duties to maintain the law and order while two mobile courts will conduct drives against adulteration, he also said.

Liberation War Affairs Minister and president of Gazipur district Awami League AKM Mozammel Haq, Gazipur-2 (Tongi) constituency lawmaker Zahid Ahshan Russell, deputy inspector general (DIG) of Dhaka range S.M Mahfuzul haque Nuruzzaman also spoke at a rally at the scene coinciding with their visit, according to BSS. - Idrak
