CHITTAGONG, Jan 5: A Chittagong court in separate verdicts today handed down life term imprisonment to three rapists for violating a six-years old and a teenage girl in separate places of Chittagong in 2013 and 2010 respectively.
The Judge of Chittagong Woman and Child Repression Tribunal-1 Muhammad Reazaul Karim delivered the two judgments convicting Nurul Alam (19), hailed from Baroipara area under Chandgaon thana in the city and Mamunur Rashid (27) son of late Abdullah Al Mamun and Delwar Hossain (27), son of Jamal Uddin, hailed from Ilsha village of Banskhali upazila in the district, court sources said.
In the first incident, the convicted ruffian Nurul Alam who is also a neighbour of the victim raped six-year old girl in Baroypara area under Chandgaon thana by alluring her with enjoying mobile game on 27 August in 2013.
Mother of the victim filed a case with Chandgaon Thana on August 28 against Alam.
The court examined the statement of three prosecution witnesses out of 15 in the trial process.
The court also fined the offender Tk 50,000.
In the second case, convicted Mamunur Rashid and Delwar Hossain, forcibly kidnapped a teenage girl from Ilsha village of Banskhali upazila and took her to a residential hotel in the city on October 20 in 2010. The culprits raped her whole night there.
Banskhali thana police submitted charge sheet before the magistrate court accusing Mamunur Rashid and Delwar Hossain for the crime following the case filed by the brother of the victim on February 23 in 2011.
Later, the case was shifted to the special tribunal here.
The court examined the statement of five prosecution witnesses in the trial process.
The court also fined the offenders Tk 50,000 each, according to BSS. – DH
