Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel nabbed 18 Bangladeshi nationals while they were attempting to cross into India illegally through Putkhali border point in Benapole on Wednesday night.
The arrestees were identified as Rahim Miah,17, Arifa Khatun,18, Julfiker Ali,21, Afijul Islam,21, Rezaul Islam,18, Abdus Salam,25, Bibekananda,20, Abdul Jabbar,50, Rasel Hossain,20, Uzzal Hasen,35, Bhagabati Das,29, Bedona Rani,40, Rakhi Rani,30, Sabita Rani,22, Raju Ahmed,26, Asif Rahman,22, Nurul Islam,30 and Suruj Miah,28, according to a news agency report.
They hail from different areas of Jessore, Barisal and Narail districts.
Golam Ahmed, Subeder of Putkhali camp of Khulna BGB Battalion-21, said on secret information, a team of the border force conducted a raid in the area at night and arrested the 18 Bangladeshi nationals, including five women, who were trying to go to India without valid documents.
Later, BGB troops handed them over to Benapole Port Police Station.
A case was filed in this connection.
