NAJRAN(Saudi Arabia) — The father of an infant who died of an alleged medical error refused to receive her body from the morgue until justice is served. Own Al-Sairy said he will not pick up the body of his daughter and will not bury her until the case is investigated and a fair verdict is issued. Eight-month-old Aryam died while being transported into Najran Hospital from Sharourah Hospital after the paramedics in the ambulance ran out of oxygen. “I have filed a complaint with Najran Municipality, Sharourah Health Affairs and Sharourah Public Hospital. Najran Health Affairs formed a committee consisting of an administrator from the directorate, pediatrician, pediatric cardiovascular specialist and a pediatric medicine specialist. The committee included members from the Maternity and Children’s Hospital, King Khalid Hospital and Najran Public Hospital,” said Al-Sairy. He said the committee sat with him to know the details of the incident. “They told me they will look into what happened to my daughter and that they will keep me updated. My daughter is still at the morgue of Sharourah Hospital. I blame the hospital for the death of my daughter. It was their job to keep their patients alive and healthy. They failed in their task,” said Al-Sairy. Najran Health Affairs Acting Director Ibrahim Balhareth confirmed that the directorate formed a committee to look into the incident. “The committee held its first meeting Tuesday morning to get the full details of the case. The committee listened to the father of the infant and will continue its investigation. The infant’s body is currently held at Sharourah Hospital’s morgue because the father refused to receive it until the case is closed,” said Al-Sairy, according to Saudi Gazette.
