President Abdul Hamid on Thursday underscored the need for changes in style and strategy of training for Bangladesh Army to go ahead keeping pace with developed countries.
"As the challenge of security related areas is increasing because of the revolutionary expansion of IT, change will have to be brought in the style and strategy of training to take the army ahead keeping pace with the developed countries," he said.
The President was speaking at the winter exercise of 55 Infantry Division of Bangladesh Army at Kalukhali upazila, Rajbari.
He said training is a continuous process and a soldier can climb to the zenith of efficiency only through training.
"Bangladesh Army has now turned into a time-befitting, disciplined and modern force through gradual development . . . the army would be one of the best professional, dynamic and efficient forces with the cooperation of all," he added.
Extending his sincere appreciation to the army for holding the exercise, President Hamid said this winter exercise bore the testimony to professionalism of Bangladesh Army. "I'm really proud to see such a skillful exercise . . . you are the apt successor of the patriotic army that was built based on the spirit of the Liberation War," said the President.
Recalling the contribution of Bengali army officers and soldiers to Liberation War, Abdul Hamid said the officials and soldiers joined the independence loving people in building up a united resistance against Pakistani Army at the call of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in 1071. "Many of them embraced martyrdom . . . I believe their sacrifices still inspire you to protect the country," he added.
Referring to various development programmes undertaken by the present government, the President said a number of programmes have been taken for development of army, its expansion and welfare of its members. He hoped that the government would continue to take such steps for the overall development of the army.
Abdul Hamid appreciated the army for including the members of Ansar, VDP and NCC in the exercise and said this step would add a new dimension to the army's war strategy regarding protecting integrity of the motherland.
Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haq, Chiefs of three services and Russian ambassador to Bangladesh Alexander A. Nikolaev were present.
The President distributed winter clothes among the local people, according to BSS. - Idrak
