The namaz-e-janaza of noted economist Dr Mahabub Hossain will be held today (Friday) after Jumma prayers.
The body of Dr Mahabub is scheduled to arrive at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the city around 10:15 am on the same day from USA.
It will be taken to Gulshan Azad Mosque where his namaz-e-janaza will be held, said Iftekhar Hossain, brother of Dr Mahabub.
After the janaza, he will be laid to rest at the city’s Banani Graveyard.
Dr Mahabub died in the early hours of Monday (Bangladesh time 2:00 am) at the operation table of the Cleveland Hospital in USA at the age of 71. He had been suffering from cardiovascular diseases.
The prominent development economist served Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies (BIDS) as its Director General, the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) as Chief of the Social Sciences Division and BRAC as its Executive Director.
Dr Mahabub was adviser to the BRAC executive director until his death. He was also a distinguished member of the CPD Board of Trustee.
Dr Mahabub is famed for his contribution to the field of agricultural policy and rural development in South, Southeast Asia and Africa, according to FE Report. – DH
