Doormat brings happiness to poor families of Rangpur
RANGPUR: A good number of extreme poor women at different villages of Kawnia upazila of the district have become financially solvent by making doormat (Paposh) in recent years.
Several hundred vulnerable women in the upazila are directly engaged in making the product and supporting their families by earning around Tk 3,000 to Tk 4,000 every month.
Mou Satranji Doormat Factory, established by a young entrepreneur Mukul Mia of village Shabaj under the upazila, has created job opportunities for these destitute rural women.
Geeta Rani (30), wife of Nirmol at village Char Panjorvanga, told this correspondent that she had been passing her days in extreme poverty even three years ago. Her husband was a farm labourer. She had to face difficulties in maintaining her family of five members with the poor amount of income of her husband.
With the aim to salvage their impoverished family she learned the skill of weaving doormat, thanks to a training she received at Mou Doormat Factory in the area. Thus she found the way to contribute significantly to her family.
Like Geeta, many other rural vulnerable women of the upazila also brought financial solvency to their families by producing doormats.
