Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) imposed three dimensional security measures covering land, water and aerial routes to ensure foolproof safety of the devotees at Biswa Ijtema on the bank of the Turag River at Tongi in Gazipur.
Besides, bomb disposal units and dog squads of Rab have already been deployed on the Ijtema ground to avert any subversive act. The first phase of Biswa Ijtema, one of the biggest congregations of Muslims in the globe, began on Friday. The three-day Ijtema will end with Akheri Munajat (final prayers) on Sunday.
Ijtema is being held in two phases from 2012 to ease accommodation problem. The second phase of Ijtema is scheduled to be held on January 15-17 at the same place.
Sources at the RAB headquarters said adequate number of RAB members have been performing their duties round the clock along with other law enforcement agencies to avert any unpleasant incident.
The elite force has ensured the security of the Ijtema ground as well as its adjoining areas. Nine observation posts have already set up with nigh vision binocular facilities along with mobile patrolling as part of overall security surveillance.
Members of the elite force have been conducting river patrolling on the Turag River alongside helicopter hovering around the surroundings of the Ijtama ground as part the vigilance.
A medical team of the elite force remains standby along with ambulance facilities for the devotees round the clock to provide emergency treatment services, according to UNB. -Mithun
