A station master was suspended following the derailment of a train in Narsingdi on Friday night. Dhaka Divisional Manager of Bangladesh Railway Md Arifuzzaman confirmed the suspension.
A passerby was killed after the engine of Titas Commuter derailed at Singrhagachha around 8:30pm on Friday. More than 100 passengers were also injured in the panic rush after the derailment.
“Primary investigation suggests the accident happened due to wrong signalling. Narsingdi Railway Station’s Station Manager Md Shajahan Mia was temporarily suspended after the accident,” Arifuzzaman said.
A four-member probe committee also formed to investigate the incident. Technical Officer Md Mahbubur Rahman of the railway’s Dhaka division is heading the probe body that is supposed to submit its report within three working days, he added.
Shajahan Mia remains absconding since the accident, according to his deputy ATM Musa. Meanwhile, the derailed engine and a compartment of the train were salvaged around 8am on Saturday, according to bdnews24.com. -Mithun
