The 45th Homecoming Day of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman will be observed on Sunday.The ruling Awami League and its associate bodies chalked out different programmes marking the day.
The AL's programmes include placing of wreaths at the portrait of Father of the Nation at Bangabandhu Memorial Museum, Dhanmondi at early morning. A discussion meeting will be held at the Suhrawardy Udyan in the city on Monday. Awami League president and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will attend the discussion as the chief guest.
On January 10 in 1972, Bangabandhu came back to the independent Bangladesh via London and New Delhi from his captivity in Pakistan.
Earlier on March 26 in 1971, Bangabandhu proclaimed independence of Bangladesh. Immediately after proclamation of the independence, Bangabandhu was arrested and flown to West Pakistan prisons.
The final victory was achieved defeating Pakistani occupation forces on December 16 in 1971. The nation's expectations were fulfilled with the homecoming of Bangabandhu.
On January 10 in 1972, Bangabandhu was moved to the Racecourse Maidan (now Suhrawardy udayan) from airport where he addressed a spontaneous reception. He recalled with respect the contribution of all during the war and urged the people to rebuild the war-ravaged country.
