Detectives arrested a suspected member of banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) from Noakhali district in connection with the bomb explosion at Sadarghat in the city that killed three people.
The arrestee was identified as M Nurunnabi alias Raju, 30. A team of Detective Branch (DB) of police launched a drive in Begumganj upazila of Noakhali on Sunday night and arrested Raju, said additional deputy commissioner of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) Babul Akter.
Two people were killed on the spot and seven people suffered injuries in a crude bomb explosion during a robbery at ‘Shah Corporation’ at Majhirghat under Sadarghat Police Station in the port city on September 23 last year. Later, the injured managing director of the company, Sotya Gopal Bhoumik, succumbed to his injuries at hospital.
On October 5 in the same year, detectives arrested five suspected JMB members along with nine grenades, one pistol, 120 bullets, several knives and huge bomb-making materials from the city’s Karnaphuli area.
Later, the law enforcers learnt after an investigation that the people involved in the robbery at ‘Shah Corporation’ of Majhirghat area are JMB members and they committed the robbery in the office for collecting money, according to UNB. -Mithun
