The government is going to impose a speed limit during fogs on the highways, after a spate of road accidents that have left scores dead.
“Driving at more than 50 km per hour in fogs will be punishable. This is the decision of the National Road Safety Council adopted at its 28th session," said Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader.
He said the maximum speed to be allowed on highways in foggy conditions would be 50 km per hour. "But it is better to drive slower, between 40 and 50 km per hour in such conditions, Quader said.
The minister said all drivers will have to switch on their fog lights. "If there is thick fog anywhere, vehicular movement will be temporarily stopped," he said, according to bdnews24.com. –Mithun
