Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha on Tuesday said he is ready to walk to and from his home to office if the city is kept clean. He was addressing a cleaning operation organized jointly by Bangladesh Supreme Court and Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) in the court premises.
The Chief Justice lauded DSCC Mayor Sayeed Khokon for initiating the cleaning operation and said, "I have seen on TV that he is cleaning garbage in old part of the city by himself. There is a garden on the Supreme Court premises, which is being looked after with the help of DSCC. We need to lay emphasis on beautification of the outer premises of the Supreme Court as well."
Justice Sinha also assured of his cooperation towards the mayor in keeping the city clean. Sayeed Khokon said Dhaka is plagued with different problems and pollution is one of them.
"2016 has been declared as the year of cleanliness. It is not possible for the mayor alone to keep the city clean. All the city dwellers have to play the role of mayor to keep the city tidy," he said. The programme was conducted by Supreme Court Registrar General Syed Aminul Islam, according to BSS. -Mithun
