SYLHET: The government has supplied around 13,703 tonnes of Boro paddy seeds of high yielding varieties (HYV) in Sylhet division during the current dry season, official sources said.
Of the total, highest 6477 tonnes were supplied in Sunamganj district, having the highet Boro lands, 2304 tonnes in Sylhet district, 3408 tonnes in Habiganj district and 1514 tonnes in Moulvibazar district seed depots, informed Deputy Director (Headquarter) of DAE, Sylhet Divisional Office Dr Mamun Ur Rashid.
The official said the programme is implemented by the BADC.
Already 60 per cent of Boro croplands have been transplanted, the official said and added, the farmers in haor region, however, have transplanted about 80 per cent of lands.
This year about 456,835 hectares of land in the division will be used for cultivating the crop with a target to produce 17,82,000 tonnes of rice, Dr Rashid informed.
Of the total, 76,830 hectares would be in Sylhet district to produce 280 000 tonnes of rice, 50,485 hectares in Moulvibazar for producing targeted 193,600 tonnes of rice, 113,600 hectares in the district of Habiganj to produce 471,000 tonnes of rice and 215,900 hectares in Sunamganj district with a target to produce 838,000 tonnes of rice.
Dr Rashid said farmers are now engaged in preparing seedbeds.
