The Zimbabwe National Cricket team, led by Elton Chigumbura, arrived here on Tuesday afternoon to play a four-match T20 series against the Bengal Tigers.
The four T20 matches between hosts Bangladesh and touring Zimbabwe will be held on Jan 15, 17, 20 and 22, all at Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna.
The Mashrafe Bin Mortaza-led Bangladesh team, now in Khulna, are preparing themselves with hard practices at hotel gymnasium and Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium while Zimbabwe team are scheduled to make their practice on Wednesday.
Zimbabwe team, which arrived in Dhaka on Monday evening, are now staying at Hotel City Inn at Mazid Sarani along with the Bangladesh team.
Meanwhile, Khulna Metropolitan Police has taken stringent security measures for the ensuing cricket series. Around 2,000 members of police and other law enforcement agencies were deployed in the city on Tuesday morning and they will remain on duty till January 23 when both the teams will depart the city.
KMP Additional Commissioner Sheikh Moniruzzaman Mithu said, “Tight security measures have been taken in the city and it will continue till the departure of both the teams on January 23.” The portion of Khulna-Jessore highway from the team hotel to the match venue has been brought under a security blanket, he said.
Members of BGB and Rab have been deployed alongside police while CC cameras installed at important city points, Mithu said.
Besides, Director of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Sheikh Sohel said Khulna is fully ready to host the four T20 matches. Manager of BCB ticket and seating committee Omar Faruk said tickets will be available at selected braches of UCB, according to UNB. -Mithun
