A performance contract signing ceremony (round -3) between University Grants Commission (UGC) and 27 universities, both public and private combined, was held at the UGC auditorium on Tuesday.
A total of 27 universities, 11 public and 16 private signed the agreement with UGC for establishing quality assurance mechanism in their universities. UGC Secretary Dr Md Khaled signed the agreement on behalf of UGC.
The estimated sub-project expenditure has been fixed at Tk440 million for the third round.
The universities which signed the agreement included - Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University, Mawlana Bhasani Science and Technology University, Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology, Noakhali Science and Technology University, Comilla University, Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University, Jessore University of Science and Technology, Begum Rokeya University, Pabna Science and technology University, Bangladesh Textile University, Chittatong Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, The People's University of Bangladesh, Leading University, BGC Trust University, State University of Bangladesh, Green University of Bangladesh, ULAB, ASA University, Sylhet International University, Southern University Bangladesh, North South University, University of Science and Technology Chittagong, East West University, Bangladesh University, Premier University, Shanto-Marium University of Creative Technology and Primeasia University.
UGC Chairman Professor Abdul Mannan was present as the Chief Guest on the occasion. Professor Dr Mohammad Yousuf Ali Mollah, Member, UGC, Professor Dr Dil Afroza Begum, Member, UGC and Dr Md Mokhlesur Rahman, Senior Operations Officer, World Bank were present at special guests.
Professor Dr Mesbahuddin Ahmed, Head of Quality Assurance Unit, UGC delivered the welcome address. Dr Gauranga Chandra Mohanta Project Director, HEQEP chaired the function.
Speaking on the occasion, UGC Chairman said huge expansion of higher education has taken place in the country. Now, the main challenge is to maintain quality education at tertiary level, he added.
