Capital Dhaka’s rail link with Chittagong and Sylhet has been restored after a seven-hour halt following violence unleashed by madrasa students.
Bangladesh Railway’s Assistant Station Master at Brahmanbarhia Mainul Islam said train communications resumed at around 6:50pm after the trail tracks had been mended.
He earlier said train communications through the town had been suspended at about 11:15am after madrasa students vandalised a rail station and removed sleepers following the death of a student in a clash with police.
Masudur Rahman, 20, a student of Jamia Islami Yunusia Madrasa, was injured in Monday's clash with law enforcers. He succumbed to his injuries at Brahmanbarhia Sadar Hospital early on Tuesday. After the news of the death went around, fellow students went on the rampage in Brahmanbarhia district town on Tuesday morning, according to bdnews24.com. -Mithun
