Four people have died in separate road accidents in Thakurgaon and Comilla districts on Wednesday. At least 18 others have been injured in the crashes, which occurred in the earlier part of the day.
Two female garment workers were killed after a covered van hit a human hauler head-on at Chouddagram Upazila of Comilla.
At least 15 others were injured in the accident, which took place near Chhapua on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway around 8:30am, said Comilla Police.
One of the dead is Janu Akhter, 30. The other victim could not be identified immediately.
Both of them used to work at the local Aminshak Garments factory, according to police.
The injured have been admitted to Chouddagram Upazila Health Complex.
Comilla Police OC Farhad said the human haulier was carrying a group of garment workers to the factory when it collided head-on with the covered van.
Outraged by the incident, fellow garment workers blocked the highway, stopping traffic for about an hour before police dispersed them, the local police chief told bdnews24.com.
Bus-truck collision kills two
A bus-truck collision left two people dead and three others injured at Thakurgaon’s Sadar Upazila at around 9:30am.
Thakurgaon Police said a truck hit a passenger bus head-on at Dhaka-Dinajpur Highway near the upazila’s Khochabarhi.
One person died on the spot. Locals rushed the injured to Thakurgaon Sadar Hospital, where another person succumbed to the injuries.
The victims could not be identified immediately, according to bdnews24.com.
