The preventive team of Dhaka Customs House seized huge quantities of mobile phone sets worth around Tk35 million from cargo village of Hazrat Shahjalal international Airport on Thursday.
Sources at the Dhaka Customs House said AF Enterprise, a private trading house, imported the mobile set consignment declaring those as mobile accessories from Hongkong.
The consignment was brought to Dhaka on November 8 last year by an aircraft from Hong Kong and since then the goods were kept inside the cargo village of the airport.
The customs preventive team, acting on a tip-off, seized 16 cartoons from the cargo village and recovered 1702 pieces of mobile phone sets of different brands, said Assistant Commissioner (customs) Shahiduzzaman.
The mobile phone sets were brought without permission from the BTRC and the importer evaded tax around Tk9 million, said AC Shahiduzzaman, according to UNB. - Idrak
