ISLAMABAD—A private TV channel, ARY, located in the Sector F-7/4, came under attack here Wednesday evening when unidentified motorcyclists lobbed a low-intensity grenade in its main building injuring a technical worker and causing damage to the windows. The attack was followed by gun fire.
A little known Islamic Organization Daulat-e-Kharasani claimed the responsibility of the attack. The attack caused fear among the workers of the TV channel and they came out of the building in order to save their lives.
The attack prompted the government and all the media houses to enhance security outside their offices. According to the reports, the attackers left some pamphlets warning the TV channel in particular and all the channels and newspapers in general to ‘refrain from supporting the national action plan’. The attackers who reportedly belonged to Daesh or Islamic State also condemned the security agencies’ operation against the Sunni leaders.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Imran Khan accompanied by Shah Mehmood Qureshi and Jahangir Tarin in order to express solidarity with the TV channel arrived at the site and inquired about the details of the incident. Later, talking briefly to the media, he condemned that attack on media which has played crucial role in restoration of democracy and freedom of speech. He also called for introducing effective policing in Islamabad and rest of the country, according to Pakistan Observer.
