Two women councillors have been arrested in Rajshahi over their alleged involvement in acts of sabotage. Anwara Begum Poly and Monjila Begum, women councillors of Chapai Nawabganj and Shibganj municipalities, respectively, were arrested from outside the venue of a function at Rajshahi Shilpakala Auditorium, said Rajshahi police OC Mahbubur Rahman. The function was the oath-taking ceremony of mayors and councillors elected at the recent municipal polls in Chapai Nawabganj and Shibganj, he added. The OC said, “Detective Police arrested them in front of the auditorium before their taking the oath at around 11am.” They were then taken to Chapai Nawabganj, he added. Rajshahi police had earlier arrested two more women councillors of Chapai Nawabganj in sabotage-related cases on Wednesday, according to a news agency.
