Police allegedly beat up Bikash Chandra Das, 40, an inspector of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC). The Injured got admitted to the neurosurgery ward of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
His family said several police personnel of the Jatrabari Police Station, including Sub-inspector Arshad Hossain, beat him up in Dhaka’s Mirhazaribagh on Friday morning.
His brother, Chandan Das, said Bikash, Cleaning Inspector of the DSCC, had gone to Mirhazaribagh from his home in Dayaganj on his motorbike to supervise cleaning work. “Several policemen, including SI Akash, stopped and assaulted him. He got injured in the head,” he added. A DMCH doctor said they completed a CT scan on Bikash and found no brain injury.
Nurul Amin, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Wari Zone, however, tried to play down the incident as ‘misunderstanding’. He said that a team of plainclothes policemen asked Bikash to stop. “Suspecting them to be snatchers, Bikash tried to turn back but fell, suffering injuries. It’s a case of misunderstanding. Still actions will be taken against the policemen if any negligence of duty is found in investigations,” he said, according to bdnews24.com. –Mithun
