PM's Economic Affairs Adviser Dr Mashiur Rahman on Friday laid emphasis on the use of surface water to protect the environment.
Dr Moshiur was addressing a discussion at Khulna Public Health Engineering Department on a proposal for supplying water after purifying the water from derelict ponds and water bodies in Senhati union of Dighalia upazila.
He underscored the need for gradually increasing the use of surface water by cutting down the use of underground water to protect the country's environment.
Dr Mashiur requested all concerned to protect the natural sources of water, including canals, haors and rivers, for maintaining the ecological balance.
Superintendent Engineer SM Wahidul Islam, Deputy Commissioner M Mostafa Kamal and Additional Deputy Commissioner Dipankar Biswas were present at the discussion with Executive Engineer M Ali Azgor in the chair, according to BSS. - Idrak
