With a vision to turn the young generation into future global leaders, United International University Model United Nations (UIU MUN) Club arranged a Youth Leadership Exploration Workshop on 18th April, 2016 at UIU auditorium, Dhaka. The workshop was inaugurated by guest speaker Mr. Bijon Islam, CEO and co-founder at LightCastle Partners.
An aficionado of startup business, Bijon Islam owning the first company in Bangladesh funded by Facebook and Microsoft enlightened the students with his immense knowledge on growing digital consumer market in Bangladesh, development of networking skills and prospect of Bangladesh as an investment destination. He introduced Bangladesh as the 'Dazzling Delta'. With a high propensity to spend by consumers and greater adaptability to technology, he mentioned that Bangladesh has a dynamic consumer market. He encapsulated the different categories of digital consumers and gave an interesting insight on how 50% of the people in Bangladesh have now shifted to digital from traditional consumerism, whereas people in India and China are still mostly confined to traditional consumerism. Bijon Islam emphasized that with the three segments of e-commerce thriving in Bangladesh and large investments on digitalisation by the government, improvements have to be made in the 'last mile logistic' and 'payment method' of digital purchase system. He highlighted the grocery and consumer electronics as the potential growth forces in Bangladesh in 2016 and according to him, info-tech and robotics are the most rewarding investment areas.
During the interactive workshop session, he was asked question about how to raise capital for startup business and success factors of an entrepreneur, he mentioned having three things--good team, market potential and scalable idea. With examples of Mark Zuckerberg and Sachin Tendulkar, Bijon Islam insisted on perseverance as a key quality to success. Moreover, he ardently advised everyone to watch the '3 Idiots' movie for better life inspirations. He concluded his speech by showing a glance of the young team members present in his LightCastle firm and encouraged students to take risks instead of contemplating their whole life. He insisted on to 'Just Go for it!'
With the aim of enhancing leadership quality and analytical ability, UIU MUN club's 'Youth Leadership Exploration' ---the two hour long workshop was successful in presence of students and faculty members of United International University.
