CHITTAGONG, Aug 12: Chairman of Chittagong Development Authority (CDA) Abdus Salam on Saturday said Chittagong people will see a visible change within next five years after completion of three major development projects.
He said the water-logging solution project involving Tk 56.16 billion, 16.50-kilometre Lalkhan Bazar to Airport elevated expressway construction project worth Tk 32.50 billion and 8.50-kilometre Kalurghat Bridge to Chaktai Khal road-cum-embankment construction project worth Tk 19.78 billion will change the whole scenario of Chittagong.
All these three projects have been approved in the ECNEC meeting under the special initiative of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as per her commitment to the people of shouldering responsibility for development of Chittagong at the pre-election campaign at Laldighi Maidan in 2008, he said.
The CDA chairman said the biggest-ever project undertaken for resolving water-logging problem in Chittagong has already started and will be completed in next three years while two other major construction projects would start soon and are expected to be completed by 2021.
He said this at a view-exchange meeting on the CDA projects with the members of print and electronic media this afternoon at Well Park hotel, a family business house of the CDA chairman at the city's GEC Square.
CDA board members Md Jashim Uddin, Jashim Uddin Shah and KBM Shahjahan, architect Sohail Shakur, city planner Engineer Shahinul Islam, chief engineer Jashim Uddin and deputy secretary Amal Guha were present at the meeting.
Regarding coordination with other service providing agencies in implementation of the water-logging solution project the CDA chairman said obviously the project would be implemented in full coordination with Chittagong City Corporation and Chittagong WASA.
In the meeting, Mr Salam said development projects involving Tk 1,000 billion would be implemented in the city and south Chittagong in five years from now. Works of most of these projects have already started, he added.
He said in view of huge potential of Chittagong the government has undertaken projects to set up an economic zone
at Anwara on the south bank of the Karnaphuli River, industrial park, deep-sea port in Cox's Bazar, tourism village and Asian highway project in south Chittagong.
The south Chittagong region will be directly connected with Chittagong port otherwise this huge potential of the region would remain untapped, he said citing schemes undertaken by the present government.
Regarding ongoing projects of the CDA he said construction work of Shah Amanat Karnaphuli Bridge to Bakolia-Bahaddarhat Road and Bahaddarhat Junction Overpass is going on while Muradpur-Lalkhan Bazar flyover project will be completed before November this year.
